William McKinley, 25th president of the United States, served from 1892 -1896, his term cut short by a bullet from an assassin. McKinley is one of four presidents felled by assassination, the others being Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, and John F. Kennedy. McKinley was 58 when he died and is generally considered to have been an above-average president.
