About This Art

What an interesting subject, she of the unibrow & unrepentant mustache, Mexican folk dresses, flower headdresses and chunky jewelry! Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is considered to be one of Mexico’s most important artists; her work was very personal, much of it self-portraits, and often surreal. She was a very complicated woman, bisexual, and greatly affected by bad health due to polio as a child and the life-long, debilitating effects of a bus crash at age 18. She was married to artist Diego Rivera.
