Colored pencil/tinted paper. Portrait of Nina Mae McKinney(1912-1967). Bet you never heard of her—me either 'til just recently, & that’s too bad. She was one of the 1st African-American film stars, & obviously an extravagantly beautiful woman. Most of her success was in Europe because 1930’s racist Hollywood was afraid to use her in glamorous starring roles. Did I exaggerate her eyes for this portrait? I did not! Her eyes were naturally that large & gorgeous & she was known as "The Black Garbo."
